My Social Media Rebellion
Why I Chose Connection Over Clicks This Week
Happy Friday! We made it!
First, I want to say a huge thank you to all of you who wrote back with kind words about my D’Angelo piece. It's so wild to me that he’s gone, but he left us the beautiful gift of his music, and so much more. And, yes, I promise to share some more of my adventures in future editions!
On the other hand, I have no adventures to report this week. Quite the opposite, in fact. Only that…
This Week, I Discovered That I’m Allergic to the Social Media Race For Eyeballs.
Real talk. I spent most of this week putting together a social media post about the Masterclass on November 12, but as soon as it was time to design the posts, I… just… couldn’t. Without fail, my eyes would close, and white noise would fill my head. Reading that back, that’s a nightmare combination. And honestly, it felt FRUSTRATING. At first, I put it down to overwhelm. I’ve been doing a lot lately, and it’s the end of the year. I’m sure you can relate.
A few days later, while lamenting about my new social media aversion with a member of my unofficial brain trust, I, out of nowhere, blurted out, "You know what? Fishing in the ocean" for random customers feels… funky. I think…I want to know who I’m talking to, and what they need. I’m not trying to talk to strangers” (Say this with your best London accent. Not that Don Cheadle “Ocean’s Eleven” one. That accent was TERRIBLE.)
I shocked myself as the words came out of my mouth.

Me in real time. As those words left my lips.
But then, right after my initial shock, I started to feel less pressed about my Masterclass outreach strategy. In that moment, I understood that my brain shutting down was really my spirit, yes, ALL OF IT, rebelling against an outreach approach that was completely misaligned with the workshop's actual purpose and goal, which is to empower leaders, creators, and speakers who want to amplify their message, mission, and expertise confidently. So I sat with it some more, and I found myself answering even more questions for myself, like...
The $39 Question: What Happens After Day 30?
In an economy where layoffs are a harsh reality for so many of us and career pivots and managing budgets are on everyone’s mind, we're all scrutinizing every dollar, especially when launching something new. And you absolutely should.
That’s why I love that there are plenty of courses for people to choose from. I see the value in the 3- and 5-day, $39 or $47 courses promising to have you spinning up your “podcast in 30 days" or "get more fans." I've checked a few out myself. They're great for giving you an initial burst of confidence and a quick win. I've walked away from some of these sessions feeling amped to try new things, too.
But after the adrenaline fades…
What happens on day 31 (or 8, or 15)?
And after that first win, what's the actual next step?
I’m About Relationships and Sustainability. Not Reach.
That's when it hit me (again): my "fear" of social media wasn't ‘fear’ at all. It was my realization of what this ‘YPP’ community truly is. I’m not in the business of having thousands of clients I’ll likely never meet—if I were, I’d still be leading a creator program for a certain global media giant.
I am in the business of using my platform — not the dopamine-inducing social media kind, but my deep expertise, experience, and industry ecosystem to deliver solutions tailored to your projects. That means no scaled, breakneck-speed workshops. Instead, I’m talking about live sessions, intimate groups, and check-ins.
So, I immediately shifted my approach. I leaned in to a more personalized, targeted approach that aligns with my ethos. I’ve already seen the progress and benefits.
I hope that if any of you were struggling with that this week, my lesson helps you in some way!
Have a brilliant weekend, and I’ll see some of you on November 12th!
Christabel
P.S. But, just so we’re clear — you will continue to see a social media post or two from me (I still want the world to know!), but a more personalized approach, based on value and relationships – not scale – is the way forward for me.
