Can You Incorporate Video Promos to Boost Engagement Without Increasing Your Workload?
Plus: A heads up on a conversation with the creator of(Cómo ser una) Gorda Libre
Hi everybody,
Happy Easter to all who celebrate, and welcome to our new community members!
On My Mind
It’s been a busy week! I had an enlightening conversation with Miriam Lara-Mejia, the creator of the Audible exclusive (Cómo ser una) Gorda Libre, about her mission to educate us on fatphobia and the lessons she’s learned about transitioning from a social media content creator to a podcaster. I’ll share excerpts from our conversation in an upcoming edition of the newsletter as part of my ongoing AudioDiaspora audio series. But in the meantime, check her show out!
Video Podcasts in Your Ecosystem?
I know! The discussion around video podcasts won't stop. If you’re an audio-first podcaster, this chatter may be driving you a bit mad. At a recent event, even more people, including Jemma Rose Brown from The Signal Awards and Steve McLendon from YouTube, talked about the power of this format.
The conversations after the event were filled with questions about how audio-first podcasters could integrate video content into their already packed production schedules. After all, over a billion people watch video podcasts on YouTube every month.
However, I don’t think you need to rush to overhaul your format or replace your radio mic with a TV studio setup. Remember, people still love the audio-first format.
That said, I’m addressing all you audio-first producers: it's worth considering how to include video in your ecosystem. It could be a great way to promote your show! Why not create a promotional clip or a behind-the-scenes (BTS) snippet and turn it into a short video? Link it to your show and build from there.
I can share from experience that you'll see positive results. As always, I encourage you to test, evaluate, and consider how you can incorporate it into your workflow. But give it a try!
That’s all for now! In the next edition, I’ll provide an exciting update about my upcoming YPP multi-session workshop. The workshop will focus on developing your voice, creating feedback loops, and building a roadmap for your show's growth.
